NATIONAL HOUSING SYSTEM

CHBA is lobbying government for a national housing system that supports a healthy business environment. A healthy environment would give professional builders the opportunity to operate on a profitable basis, anywhere in Canada; it would encourage innovation and facilitate change, and it would inspire public-private partnerships and business alliances.

OBJECTIVE-BASED BUILDING CODES

CHBA is working on a proposal for a new national building code development process that is transparent, accountable, efficient, cost-effective, sensitive to change, and supportive of innovation.

PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT

CHBA continues to support improvements in energy efficiency in keeping with the Kyoto protocol through support of the R-2000 and Envirohome building standards.

FEDERAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO MUNICIPAL INFRASTRUCTURE

CHBA continues to lobby for the re-engagement of the federal government in municipal infrastructure financing.

SHORTAGE OF SKILLED TRADES

Together with provincial associations, HRDC, and the trade commission, CHBA is taking action on the critical shortage of skilled people in the industry.
